The territory of Tuscany is predominantly hilly (66.5%).
The climate of the Maremma coast is characterized by a mildness which decreases as one enters the more inland areas. In any case, it can be said that throughout the Tuscan Maremma, the climate is maritime-Mediterranean, with mild, little rainy winters and cool, dry summers.
Perhaps one of the most uncontaminated areas of Tuscany is the southernmost part, that is, that portion of territory between the Ombrone river and the Albegna river, which includes, in addition to the municipality of Scansano, part of the municipalities of Grosseto and Magliano in Toscana towards the Sea Tirreno, Campagnatico, Roccalbegna, Semproniano and Manciano towards Amiata.
Scansano, home of Morellino, enjoys the beneficial influence of sea breezes which, especially in the summer-autumn period, help to reduce the high daytime temperatures.
The temperature range is therefore a "plus", which in addition to regulating the natural microclimate, guarantees the optimal concentration and maturation of the grapes. A factor of primary importance which, together with the composition of the soil, predominantly limestone-clayschist, with an important rocky substrate, creates the conditions for the production of wines known and appreciated throughout the world.
